The Yankees are based in the Bronx borough of New York City that competes in the American League's East Division. The club was founded in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. The team moved to New York City in 1903 and became the New York Highlanders, before taking the "Yankees" as their official name in 1913. The nicknames are The Bronx Bombers, The Yanks, The Pinstripers, The Bronx Zoo, The Evil Empire. The Yankees' rivalry with the Boston Red Sox is one of the most well-known rivalries in sports. The Yankees have won 18 Division titles, 40 AL pennants, and 27 World Series championships (1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009), all of which are MLB records.
